Experience

Science: In high school, I struggled learning the sciences (chemistry, physics, biology) because it all just seemed like a foreign language to me. It wasn't until after I pursued my passion for music that I went back to college and focused on the subjects that I always wanted to understand. If you are in high school, and really want to learn the sciences, but just need someone to translate the text book and classroom experience, I can help. Music: I have been playing upright and electric bass since the age of 15. My first and only upright bass was a gift from my high school orchestra teacher, Mrs. Janet Haas, because "[I] was [her] first high school student had that could play a D major scale in two octaves." I continue to play that same instrument to this day. High school provided me with an early start and a firm foundation in music performance. My high school music director, Mr.Jeffrey Leonard, introduced me not only to jazz music, but to legendary jazz trumpeter, mentor and educator Herb Pomeroy. During my junior and senior years of high school I notably performed with the New England Regional Grammy All-Star Jazz Band at the Berklee College of Music, and, during my senior year, won the bass chair for the Massachusetts All-State Jazz ensemble under the direction of bassist Rufus Reid. Earning a full music scholarship, I attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst towards a Bachelor’s degree in African-American Music and Jazz Performance. I had my first experience in the recording studio with then graduate student and current NYC saxophonist Nathan Childers. I have lived and performed in NYC, Paris, and Boston and surrounding areas. Over the last 20 years I have had the good fortune of performing with notable artists such as blues guitarist “Monster” Mike Welch, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, trombonist Jeff Galindo (musical director for Esperanza Spalding), and composer, author and historian Gunther Schuller. I can be found on a variety of notable music recordings. My work with composer/producer Tony Lechner can be heard on the soundtrack for the 2010 film Dinner for Schmucks starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, as well as on the winning songs for the 2010 John Lennon Song Writing Award and the Grand Prize for the Billboard World Songwriting Contest. I can also be heard playing on The Triples with Boston based singer-songwriter Abbie Barrett and the Last Date I am currently the bass guitarist for the Shana Stack Band and continue to keep a busy performance schedule.
